How can you prepare your child to be resilient to the overall process of the 11 +

It can be a tough and emotional process to go through at what is an early age and also the maturity of children varies so much at this point in time.

When anyone puts their heart and soul into anything, if the outcome is not achieved, then it is going to be hard on anyone.

We have put this together because you need to be helping your child emotionally throughout the process, to monitor how they are feeling by talking to them and then also making sure that they are secure in the message that they are receiving from you, from the word go – no matter what the outcome is.

THE MESSAGE TO THEM WHEN YOU ARE STARTING OUT

  • This preparation will help you not only for the 11 + exam, but also will help you throughout your secondary school. It is a boost for core areas!
  • You are going to have to work hard and although there may be times you want to stop, lets keep going and try our best.
  • We are going to work as a team at this!
  • There is no point in doing this halfheartedly. Give it your best shot!

THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS

  • You can only do what you can do, in the time available.
  • Work hard, don’t worry about what everyone else is doing.

LEAD UP TO EXAMS

  • You have worked hard.
  • Try your hardest on the day

Throughout the process, make sure your child is balancing work with rest and play (sports, hobbies, yoga etc).

If your child has many after school activities, you may find that just for this year you consider keeping the core activities which your child really enjoys, to provide time and to avoid them burning out.
