Inspiration, Well-Being and Success tips for your 11 Plus
Inspiration for Students
How are you all feeling?
As you are in week 9 of your course and perhaps you are feeling a little under pressure about completing this work?
You may also be feeling a little under press because other people are talking about the 11 plus.
Some people used the word stress when what they actually mean is feeling under pressure. There is a big difference in the meanings of these words.
And the first thing to say, is that a little pressure is not bad and short bursts of feeling under pressure can keep your brain more alert, and being alert makes you perform better. So, that is a good thing.*
Well-being
To counteract the feeling of being under pressure, you could incorporate some or all of these into your day:
Exercise
Laughter
Patting a pet
Going out into a green space
Dancing to your favourite songs
Chatting to friends
Relaxing
Sleeping
Remember if you do feel very low and you feel desperate, you must speak to a trusted adult who will be able to help you.
Do not keep how you are feeling to yourself.
A problem shared is a problem halved.
Talk to someone.
Success Tips
English Vocabulary- Read a newspaper
As we have said before a good grasp of vocabulary is the basis of every part of the English section within the exam.
This means understanding that words have a number of different meanings depending on whether it is a verb or a noun etc.
This means understanding when a word which sounds the same has different meanings and which one is which.
Eg: sea and see, serial and cereal.
The more you can understand the subtleties of the English language, the better.
So get reading!
Keep learning the weekly synonyms and antonyms
Read a newspaper as much as you can for some non-fiction and also current stories.
Underline any words that you do not know.
