How can you prepare your child to be resilient to the overall process of the 11 plus exam?

Preparing for the 11 plus exam can be a tough and emotional process to go through.

When anyone puts their heart and soul into anything, if the desired outcome is not achieved, then it is going to be an emotional time.

We believe that you need to be helping your child emotionally throughout the process, to monitor how they are feeling by talking to them and then also making sure that they are secure in the message that they are receiving from you.

THE MESSAGE TO YOUR CHILD WHEN THEY ARE STARTING OUT

  • This preparation will help you not only for the 11 plus exam, but also will help you throughout your secondary school life. It is a boost for core areas of English and Maths.
  • You will be learning some new and fun topics.
  • You are going to have to work hard, and although there may be times you want to stop, let’s keep going and try our best.
  • We are going to work as a team at this.
  • There is no point in doing this half-heartedly. Give it your best shot!

THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS

  • You can only do what you can do, in the time available.
  • Work hard and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing.

LEAD UP TO EXAMS

  • Be proud of yourself as you have worked hard.
  • Try your hardest on the day.

Throughout the process, make sure your child is balancing work with rest and play (sports, hobbies, yoga etc).

If your child has many after-school activities, you may find that just for this year, you consider keeping the core activities, to provide the necessary time for this course. It is also very important to ensure that there is time to relaxation.

POST-EXAM ADVICE

We believe that the message should be positive, and reinforce the effort put into preparing for the 11 plus rather than focusing on the outcome.

We believe that the effort put into this course will help the next stage of your child’s school career in both English and Maths.

We also believe that focusing on the practice of working consistently towards a goal should be praised.

We wish all our students the best of luck!
